Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Canongate at Magnolia Creek

Magnolia Creek is a 27-hole links style course in League City consisting of large Tifeagle greens, Tifway 419 tees, fairways and rough, 139 bunkers and an expansive 14-acre practice facility.

This position will require a two or four year degree in turf management or like fields, a Texas Pesticide Applicator license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment. Also, a keen eye for detail, strong work ethic and the ability to effectively communicate to superiors and subordinates are very important to the success of Magnolia Creek. Experience is a plus but not a requirement. The roles of this person will include proper calibration and application of pesticides and fertilizers, scheduling, project planning, purchasing, budgeting, irrigation auditing and repairs and detailed record keeping among many other things.

Magnolia Creek is part of the growing Sequoia Golf/Canongate family that consists of seven other courses in Texas and into the 20’s now in the greater Atlanta Georgia area. There has been and will continue to be ample opportunity for advancement within this group.  

Compensation: $30-32K

Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Redstone Golf Club – Tournament Course

Redstone Golf Club is located in Humble, Texas, just north of Houston.  The facility has 36 holes of championship golf consisting of a Rees Jones designed, Tournament Course, and a Jacobsen/Hardy designed Member Course, the former home of the Shell Houston Open from 2002-2005.  The Tournament Course is the current home of the Shell Houston Open since 2006 and is widely considered as one of the top conditioned courses on the PGA Tour.  We are currently looking for two Second Assistant Superintendents for the Tournament Course.

Requirements:

-       BS degree (preferred) or Associate degree (accepted) in Turf Management or related field

-       Minimum of 1 year experience in course maintenance at a high quality facility

-       Texas Pesticide Applicator license or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment

-       Overseeding experience (preferred)

-       Experience with ultradwarf Bermuda greens (Miniverde and Tifeagle)

-       Team player – ability to interact with management and other staff members in a cooperative and professional manner

-       Fine eye for detail and initiative – ability to recognize and act on the small details that sets a golf course a part from the others

-       History of good work ethic, honesty, and responsibility

-       Spanish communication – ability to communicate is an extreme asset

-       Provide a professional image at all times through appearance and dress

Responsibilities:

-       Assist in planning, supervising, and training the maintenance employees

-       Assist in proper timing and application of all fertilizer and chemical applications

-       Assist in managing and maintaining  irrigation and drainage systems

-       Instruct staff on proper operation and maintenance of mowing and other equipment

-       Assists in training and supervising a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the property

-       Maintain accurate and complete records on water usage, weather, applications, etc.

Spring/Summer Intern

Golfcrest Country Club is an 18 hole, private club located 15 miles south of Houston in Pearland. The club was established in 1927 and opened the present location in 1971. The new location was constructed by architect Joseph Finger and renovated by Jeffrey Blume in 2007. The course measures over 7100 yards and features Mini-Verde Bermuda Greens and Tifway 419/Common Bermuda Tees, Fairways and Rough. Golfcrest will host The Texas Honing Open, NGATour event in June 2012. This internship will be a great opportunity for a student to learn every aspect of golf course maintenance. This includes proper golf course set-up, water management, chemical and fertilizer applications, mowing practices, and many different cultivation methods. He or she will also play an integral part in helping maintain fast and firm conditions throughout the summer months. Furthermore, the student will be taught and challenged with projects throughout the course while leading small crews to accomplish each given task.  The last three interns became Assistant Superintendents after completing internship.

Looking for an individual who seeks experience in becoming a successful Golf Course Superintendent while having an excellent attitude, and consistently going above and beyond the expectations of our members and their guests. Required to be a leader and have an extensive eye for detail. Intern will work closely with crew and Assistants.  Must be enrolled in two or four year Turfgrass Management Program.
